My Day Yesterday: Pizza, Angry Birds, and Zodiac

Managed to play my last bits of Metroid: Other M for Wii. Not a fan.

Picked up my girlfriend from work, and went out to a pizza place.

She likes the arcade in there for the ticket machines even though there's nothing she wants to redeem (i.e. pointless addiction to bright lights and tickets), and she only put one dollar on her game card and walked over to some machine. Spun the wheel, and won 1000 tickets in one go. Not bad.

While I was waiting for her to finish eating, I got some playtime with Angry Birds Rio.

We also went to the library where I got to read the monthly edition of The Progressive, and checked out a few things.

When we got home, she put some songs on her iPod and I studied some Japanese. Trying to learn Katakana by heart.

We also watched Zodiac, a movie based on the real life events of the famous serial killer. We almost finished it, but it's pretty good.

Metroid: Other M Review

I really tried to give this the best shot I could since I love Metroid and Ninja Gaiden, however I can't stand it.

They should have done away with the cut-scenes since they're boring and stupid.

The only thing to look forward to is some Zero-Suit eye candy.

It tries to combine the Metroid and Ninja Gaiden games but it's not a good mix. Trading katanas for plasma shots was bad enough, but a clunky control system doesn't make things better. It was a neat idea, but the game is horribly executed. It's the worst game in the Metroid series.

Score: 5 out of 10

Metroid: Other M Impressions

Got this through Blockbuster By Mail. I've played practically every game in the Metroid series except this.

Granted I knew it wasn't a "true" Metroid game, instead a Ninja Gaiden clone co-developed by Tecmo's Team Ninja guys. But it's a kind of mix between Ninja Gaiden, 2D Metroids, and the Metroid Prime series.

It's the first Metroid to have a considerable deep plot, real cut-scenes, and voice acting. It's all kinda boring though, and they're unskippable so it sucks if you hate them.

Just got done with my first boss fight, and the game is fun for now. I'm not exactly thrilled about playing the rest, but I'll remain optimistic.

Fact of the Day: Family Computer

We knew it here as the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES for short.

However it's original Japanese counterpart is called the Family Computer or Famicom for short.

Even had volume levels on the controller and microphone.

It even had an add-on disc system for games too large for the carts like The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, and Castlevania.
