Metroid: Other M Review

I really tried to give this the best shot I could since I love Metroid and Ninja Gaiden, however I can't stand it.

They should have done away with the cut-scenes since they're boring and stupid.

The only thing to look forward to is some Zero-Suit eye candy.

It tries to combine the Metroid and Ninja Gaiden games but it's not a good mix. Trading katanas for plasma shots was bad enough, but a clunky control system doesn't make things better. It was a neat idea, but the game is horribly executed. It's the worst game in the Metroid series.

Ninja Gaiden 3 To Feature An Easy/Casual "Hero" Mode

Ninja Gaiden has always been a tough series. A easy game in that series is still a tough cookie. Knowing this Tecmo is making a new easy mode to bring in more "casual" players. The game will auto block and auto dodge most attacks. Actually that sounds pretty lame. Why not make attacks more powerful and enemies weaker?

Metroid: Other M Impressions

Got this through Blockbuster By Mail. I've played practically every game in the Metroid series except this.

Granted I knew it wasn't a "true" Metroid game, instead a Ninja Gaiden clone co-developed by Tecmo's Team Ninja guys. But it's a kind of mix between Ninja Gaiden, 2D Metroids, and the Metroid Prime series.

It's the first Metroid to have a considerable deep plot, real cut-scenes, and voice acting. It's all kinda boring though, and they're unskippable so it sucks if you hate them.

Just got done with my first boss fight, and the game is fun for now. I'm not exactly thrilled about playing the rest, but I'll remain optimistic.

10-Yard Fight (NES) Review

10-Yard Fight is yet another sports game in Nintendo's mini-series of NES games. Most of them are bad except Ice Hockey.

This one plays pretty decent, and I prefer the top down view verses the horizontal view of something like Tecmo Bowl. Except it's more like a Tiger handheld sort of game than a legitimate football title. For some reason you only play offense, if your pass is intercepted you go 20 yards back, and once you score it starts over again.

They had some good ideas, but they kinda flopped in the long-term. It's aged quite a bit, but at least we can look back and say "well at least Madden took some lessons from it" or something.

Fatal Frame Spin-Off Headed to 3DS

It seems the series will get a new game called Spirit Photo. However this game was only confirmed for Japan, not America. While games in the past have reached America, the more recent Fatal Frame IV was nowhere to be seen here.

Things I Like: Deal or No Deal

The gameshow was pretty big when it came out, granted it did get a bit stale after some time.

Howie Mandel was cool and annoying at the same time.

I liked when they did special episodes or bits like the Star Wars stuff.

Interesting enough, I noticed that one of briefcase girls was someone I recognized. Her name is Lisa Gleave, and she's not exactly a supermodel.

But I remember when she used to be a booth-babe for Tecmo's Dead or Alive games at E3.

Things I Like: Dead or Alive Xtreme 2

This game is for lonely lonely guys, but hey at least they know their audience!

It's really basically the same as Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball except some extra mini-games. For some reason volleyball got worse though.

I did like the new mini-games, made playing the game a lot less boring than the first game.

It's not exactly the greatest game out there, but it serves it's purpose. Eye candy is good.

Ninja Gaiden (Sega Game Gear) Review

Like the Sega Master System Ninja Gaiden, this is another "lost" Ninja Gaiden game. Many people remember the recent ones, and the NES trilogy, but the Game Gear got a unique version of it's own.

The graphics are simple, but the gameplay is bit more Shinobi than NES-Gaiden. I frankly like it since I thought platforming was the worst part about those games.

The levels are mostly hack and slash, but I really liked the troll boss. It was bit hard to figure if he was taking damage or not, but then I got the hang of it.

The 2nd boss I find almost impossible to beat. So I basically got stuck right there. Oh well, it's kinda hard for the sake of hard, not for the sake of challenging skilled players. I like the idea, but they could have made a much better game out of it.

Ninja Gaiden (Sega Master System) Review

I'm very fond of the Ninja Gaiden series. I loved the Xbox game, Dragon Sword, and the first two NES classics. However there was a Sega Master System NG that was developed by Sega not Tecmo. I was always interested to see how it played.

It looks a lot more colorful than the NES games, and the gameplay is pretty similar. However it does have a much faster pace to it, which I think is more it's downfall than it's advantage. Jumping around is floating, and you will fall into many unwanted places.

Speaking of unwanted places, see those two pits? You will fall into pits like that a lot. Hit by a bomb? Death. Hit by other Ninja Guy? Death. Misjudge your jump? Death.

After some frustrating trial and error, I managed to make it to the first boss. I really liked Mr. Sumo man a lot, since he was hard, but wasn't impossible when I found out his moves and how to defeat him.

The rest of the game jumps up in difficulty after that. The next stage is Toyko or something, and apparently Yakuza, those fucking eagles, and Japanese cameramen hate you worse than Hitler. It's a decent try by Sega, but I think it's unworthy of it's series legacy.

Things I Like: Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball

With such a sexual series, you knew this was bound to happen. Disregard the M because this about as racy as a Victoria's Secret catalog.

The volleyball in the game is okay, but it's no Beach Spikers.

Pool Hopping was decent.

But c'mon that's not why you played the game. It was for the girls in thong bikinis and shit. Such ronery days back then.
