Kim Jong-il's dad was even more loved than he was by the media of North Korea. He is known as the country's Eternal President, and when he died thousands of people mourned for days. Even today (outside visitors included) that you still have to pay extreme respect to his memory while in the country.

Kim Jong-il was born in the Soviet Union while his dad commanded an Soviet group of Korean, and Chinese exiles. However his birth record in North Korea says he's one year younger than he really is. They made up a story that his birth was foretold by a swallow, and he was born on Baekdu Mountain during Japanese rule of Korea. They also say the mountain had a double rainbow and a new star in the heavens.
