My girlfriend picked this one up at the library, and I was tempted to watch it with her even though I didn't have much of a choice. I'm quite fond of both Natalie Portman and Susan Sarandon.
The film is about a mother who drags her daughter along to California with her with vague hopes to become a teacher and for her daughter to be an actress. Needless to say her dreams don't come out as true as she wanted, and the daughter hates her guts.
Granted I would too if I had a psychopath for a mother. Both Portman and Sarandon do excellent jobs in the movie, but the story and characters are a bit tough to swallow.
There's some mother-daughter drama/bonding themes in the movie, however since I'm neither a mother nor daughter I guess it didn't tug at my heartstrings as it would a Lifetime channel viewer. Girls might find it to be a decent movie, however I didn't enjoy myself too much.
