Troy Davis Dead After Supreme Court Denial

Even though the case of a murdered police officer happened quite a long time ago, Troy Davis' last moments were in the spotlight of the world. He was found guilty, but as the years went on the evidence and testimony fell apart. The system refused to give him a new trial and he was sentenced to death. 

As his last day drew near, his supporters grew and grew. People held signs like "I am Troy Davis" and marched in protest. However after a Supreme Court rejected his case, he was killed by lethal injection only hours ago in Georgia. This is a perfect example of why the death penalty should be abolished. 

Ohio Serial Killer Sentenced to Death

Anthony Sowell murdered at least 11 women a few years ago, and put them in holes in his backyard. He apparently faces almost a 90 counts of rape, murder, and kidnapping. He just got the death sentence today. 

Fact of the Day: Electric Dentist Chair

The Electric Chair was the idea of Dr. Alfred P. Southwick who saw a intoxicated man die quickly after touching a live generator. The reason why he chose a chair was because he was a dentist and was used to working with chairs. He saw the electric chair as a more humane form of execution than hanging.

I've heard of the movie for quite some time now, however I thought this would be more a show and dance thing rather than a more major story-line. 

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of singing and dancing, with top-notch production values to boot. They do a nice job of switching back and forth between "acting" and "singing." 

The film is about a young girl named Roxie Hart. After being lied to by her shithead boyfriend, she shot him dead. She's at first scared of the thought of being hanged, but eventually loves the spotlight from the papers more than the thought of going free. 

Catherine Zeta-Jones provides a great performance as Velma who is Roxie's rival for media attention. She also killed her lover. 

Richard Gere also performs well as their lawyer Billy. Such a controlling asshole with class. 

I was sad to see Lucy Liu have a great story line that got dropped quickly. I wanted to see more of her.  

Illinois Shuts Down Death Penalty

Even though there hasn't been an execution in the state for a decade or so, the state of Illinois has shut down the death penalty and death row for good. Which I think is a good thing. Executions are barbaric, and cost way too much because of appeals.
