My Day Yesterday: Up and Early For Work

Woke up really early today to start a super-early shift at work.

Work sucked.

But I was able to get a good biscuit at McDonald's on break. I love breakfast.

Then I went home and watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Also found out I was out of soda, so I had to get my mom to get me some on sale near her work before she came home. I was too tired to do it myself.

Found out the next game Blockbuster is sending me will be Dead Rising 2. Didn't come in the mail today, so that means on Tuesday I will get it. Stupid labor day.

Also watched my copy of Semi-Pro.

And now it's time to go night night for yet another early day......

Watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

It's hard to believe that's it's been over a decade since the release of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I remember seeing a little bit of it on TV. I bought the DVD years ago, but never felt the need to watch it until now.

I do like how the movie is set back in the olden days of China. Chinese culture is deeply rooted in the film, and it's a pleasant theme.

I just didn't dig the characters too badly though. The film's plot is rather weak, and the characters aren't that well developed. Jen Yu for example probably has the richest back-story of all, but her character seems rather impulsive and almost inhuman. It's more philosophical metaphors than sensible story-telling.

The fighting scenes seemed to be the main draw of the film from the ads I remember, however they're rather pathetic. Wire Fu is about as stupid as it sounds, and the scenes aren't very exciting. Very little blood, and it's more dancing than combat.

The movie is easily one of the most over-rated films I've ever had the chance to watch. It's not bad, but it's certainly not the masterpiece of a film that American critics made it out to be. Maybe we were starving for a good story from the East, but I think we've been fed many better ones over the years.

My Day Yesterday: Grass Cutting and Iron Man

I wake up to hear my dog whining and barking. Apparently we are getting a tree cut down soon, if the guys we hired get time to come down here. Apparently they did a little lawn work this morning, and my dog went nuts. She loves people, and she can't stand not being able to see them.

Speaking of lawn care, I went to tackle on my backyard. Wasn't too bad, thankfully the lawn wasn't too grown. Only took maybe 15-25 mins to do it all.

Watched the Iron Man movie as well.

Started Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon as well. Only a little bit into it. I'll probably finish it tomorrow.

Now I'm off to work, and then I have to get up and go in this morning very early. It's going to be a fun day.
