Watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

It's hard to believe that's it's been over a decade since the release of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. I remember seeing a little bit of it on TV. I bought the DVD years ago, but never felt the need to watch it until now.

I do like how the movie is set back in the olden days of China. Chinese culture is deeply rooted in the film, and it's a pleasant theme.

I just didn't dig the characters too badly though. The film's plot is rather weak, and the characters aren't that well developed. Jen Yu for example probably has the richest back-story of all, but her character seems rather impulsive and almost inhuman. It's more philosophical metaphors than sensible story-telling.

The fighting scenes seemed to be the main draw of the film from the ads I remember, however they're rather pathetic. Wire Fu is about as stupid as it sounds, and the scenes aren't very exciting. Very little blood, and it's more dancing than combat.

The movie is easily one of the most over-rated films I've ever had the chance to watch. It's not bad, but it's certainly not the masterpiece of a film that American critics made it out to be. Maybe we were starving for a good story from the East, but I think we've been fed many better ones over the years.

Doom 1 and Doom 2 Now Unbanned in Germany

Germany kind of sucks when it comes to censorship. Violent video games usually get banned for no reason. Doom was one of the first notable games to receive such a punishment. Why end the almost 2 decade ban? Well the current government believes it has something of value when it comes to history.

Robber Uses Facebook Date As Getaway Driver

This woman, Leah Gibbs is not a smart lady. She was asked out by Adam Minton on Facebook. After a weird trip to the betting parlor, she drives him somewhere and waits in the car. He then comes out with a knife and bag of money and tells her to drive off. So she does, and they end up being arrested. I wonder if she will call him back.

Walmart Refuses to Help Child After Bat Attack

Have you ever been attacked by a bat after reaching into a freezer to get some nice Tombstone pizzas? Me neither, but apparently a little girl got bit by a rabid bat having her undergo painful memories and shots. The mother is trying to get Wal-mart to at least cover her medical bills (which I can't imagine being high), but they are refusing to do the honorable thing. Just another terrible thing Wal-mart has done.

Things I Like: Chuck E. Cheese's

This was one of my favorite places as kid. Sadly they didn't make one in my town until after I was too old to go back.

I don't even remember what the pizza there is like.

I can't wait until I have kids of my own or when my nephews grow up. This will be a nice place to take them.

Things I Hate: Avatar: The Last Airbender

Saw a little when it first came out. Just too kiddy for me. Also just loathe the art style of it.

Fact of the Day: Governor of Cuba and Philippines

President William Howard Taft was also once a Governor to Cuba and the Philippines.
